Alternative to Improvado

The Improvado alternative for digital marketing agencies

Improvado pipes marketing data into warehouses. Phloz models + monitors the tracking setup that produces the data — the assurance layer, at agency prices.

What you're probably tired of

  • Five-figure annual pricing and a sales-led rollout for what an agency mostly needs at ops scale
  • The pipelines move the data, but nothing models whether the tracking SETUP producing it is intact
  • A broken pixel or misfiring GTM container surfaces as a weird chart, weeks late — the ETL faithfully syncs bad data
  • It's a data platform, not an ops platform — clients, delivery, and approvals still need other tools

What changes on Phloz

  • The typed tracking-infrastructure map: every client's GA4/GTM/pixels/CAPI as a graph with health state + verification cadence
  • Proactive tracking-health — audits, a 0–100 score, a weekly digest that names the client whose setup broke
  • Agency ops in the same tool: CRM, tasks, messages, client portals, retainer-burn
  • Self-serve, per-active-client pricing an independent agency can actually run

Should you actually switch?

A switch is real cost — a few days of structural mapping, a parallel-running week, training time, and the friction of breaking habits your team has built. Worth it when the new tool meaningfully changes how you work; not worth it when the gain is incremental.

The five signals that you're ready to leave Improvado: (1) you're paying for seats or contacts you don't use, (2) you're running the tracking stack in a separate Sheet because the CRM has nowhere for it, (3) onboarding a new team member takes more than a day because the configuration is tribal knowledge, (4) clients ask "where do I see progress?" and you don't have a clean answer, (5) you're duplicating client data across two or three tools because no single tool fits.

If three of those five describe your agency, the structural upgrade pays back inside a quarter. If only one or two, stay where you are and revisit at the next pricing renewal — switching for marginal gain is usually a worse decision than the marginal gain.

When Improvado is still the right choice

The honest counter-positioning. Improvadoisn't wrong for everyone — these are the cases where staying makes more sense than switching. If any of them describe you, weigh the trade carefully before migrating.

  • You genuinely need warehouse-grade ETL — hundreds of live sources normalized into Snowflake/BigQuery for BI. That's Improvado's product; Phloz doesn't ingest data at all.
  • Enterprise data governance (naming-convention enforcement, taxonomy standardization across brands) is a requirement.
  • Your deliverable is cross-channel dashboards fed by live spend/performance data.
  • You're an enterprise or large media team where the Improvado contract is already justified by analyst-hours saved.

Migration: what to plan for

This is mostly not a data migration — Improvado holds pipelines and dashboards, not client/delivery records. Bring your client list in via CSV and build each client's tracking map (the onboarding-audit flow seeds it). Be clear about what you're NOT replacing: Phloz has no live data connectors, no warehouse ETL, no cross-channel dashboards. If those pipelines are load-bearing, keep them (or move to a cheaper reporting tool) — Phloz replaces the missing monitoring layer, not the ETL.

The structural rethink — mapping Improvado's shape to Phloz's opinionated agency model — takes longer than the data move. Read the marketing agency CRM buyer's guide for the six capabilities that should drive the decision, and the pricing page to run the per-active-client math at your client count.

Improvado migration FAQ

The three questions agency owners ask before signing the switch decision. Honest answers — same data we'd give a friend evaluating the move.

Does Phloz pull live data from ad platforms like Improvado?
No — and it's worth being precise here. Improvado ingests live performance data from hundreds of sources; Phloz doesn't ingest platform data today. Phloz models the tracking SETUP (which properties, containers, pixels, conversions exist and how they connect) and monitors its health via audits. Config-level assurance vs data-level reporting — related, but different layers.
Then what does Phloz catch that Improvado misses?
The failure BEFORE the data. An ETL pipeline faithfully syncs whatever the platforms report — including the numbers from a client whose conversion tag silently broke or whose CAPI is double-firing. Phloz's map + audit engine is aimed at exactly that class of problem: is the setup intact, verified recently, and wired the way it should be? That's the layer no connector catalog covers.
Is Phloz a cheaper Improvado?
No — it's a different tool at a different altitude. Improvado is enterprise data infrastructure (typically five figures a year, sales-led). Phloz is agency operations software (self-serve, priced per active client) with a tracking-assurance layer. Agencies that need both run both; most independent agencies need the ops + assurance layer far more often than the warehouse.

What you keep when you migrate

The honest list of what survives the move from Improvado. Your client list and contact records (CSV import). Your active tasks and their assignees, statuses, due dates (CSV import). Your custom fields, on clients and tasks (mapped to Phloz custom fields during import). Your inbound email addresses if you set up forwarding (re-pointed at the per-client Phloz inbound addresses).

What doesn't survive: historical activity logs older than what you'd realistically reference (most agencies discover they don't open activity from before the last quarter). Bespoke automation rules built on Improvado's specific automation engine — these need to be re-expressed in Phloz's patterns (recurring tasks, status hooks, inbound thread routing) or offloaded to Inngest / Zapier. Time entries stay in your time-tracking tool of record (Phloz integrates rather than re-imports).

The trade is a lighter, more opinionated tool that runs your agency's shape natively — at the cost of some per-tool customisation that, in retrospect, was usually a workaround for a missing primitive. See agency project management software for the broader buyer's guide on what to evaluate alongside this switch decision.
