Alternative to Looker Studio

The Looker Studio alternative for digital marketing agencies

Looker Studio is a free dashboard canvas. Phloz is the agency platform underneath — tracking assurance, CRM, delivery, and portals per client.

What you're probably tired of

  • Hand-built dashboards per client that break silently when a connector or the underlying tracking changes
  • Free, but the hours spent building + maintaining report pages per client are anything but
  • No concept of clients, tasks, approvals, or retainers — it's a canvas, not a platform
  • A blank-page tool where every agency reinvents the same report, with no monitoring of the setup behind the data

What changes on Phloz

  • A typed tracking-infrastructure map per client with audits, a 0–100 score, and a weekly digest — assurance instead of another hand-built page
  • An agency-shaped platform out of the box: CRM, tasks with client approval, message threads, magic-link portals, retainer-burn
  • A maintenance-free monthly client report (branded, with portal sign-off) — no per-client page building
  • One place where "is this client's tracking OK?" has an answer that doesn't require opening six dashboards

Should you actually switch?

A switch is real cost — a few days of structural mapping, a parallel-running week, training time, and the friction of breaking habits your team has built. Worth it when the new tool meaningfully changes how you work; not worth it when the gain is incremental.

The five signals that you're ready to leave Looker Studio: (1) you're paying for seats or contacts you don't use, (2) you're running the tracking stack in a separate Sheet because the CRM has nowhere for it, (3) onboarding a new team member takes more than a day because the configuration is tribal knowledge, (4) clients ask "where do I see progress?" and you don't have a clean answer, (5) you're duplicating client data across two or three tools because no single tool fits.

If three of those five describe your agency, the structural upgrade pays back inside a quarter. If only one or two, stay where you are and revisit at the next pricing renewal — switching for marginal gain is usually a worse decision than the marginal gain.

When Looker Studio is still the right choice

The honest counter-positioning. Looker Studioisn't wrong for everyone — these are the cases where staying makes more sense than switching. If any of them describe you, weigh the trade carefully before migrating.

  • Free is the requirement and a hand-maintained dashboard per client is acceptable — Looker Studio is unbeatable on price for a report canvas.
  • Deep custom visualization over BigQuery / Google-stack data is the deliverable.
  • You have a dedicated analyst who owns report-building and connector upkeep.
  • You need embedded/whitelabeled live dashboards inside another property.

Migration: what to plan for

Nothing migrates from Looker Studio itself — it holds report layouts, not agency data. Import clients via CSV, map each client's tracking (minutes, seeded by the onboarding audit), and keep your Looker Studio dashboards wherever clients genuinely use them: Phloz doesn't render live-data dashboards and isn't trying to. What retires is the ops duct tape around the dashboards, not necessarily the dashboards.

The structural rethink — mapping Looker Studio's shape to Phloz's opinionated agency model — takes longer than the data move. Read the marketing agency CRM buyer's guide for the six capabilities that should drive the decision, and the pricing page to run the per-active-client math at your client count.

Looker Studio migration FAQ

The three questions agency owners ask before signing the switch decision. Honest answers — same data we'd give a friend evaluating the move.

Looker Studio is free. What am I paying Phloz for?
Not for dashboards — for the agency platform and the assurance layer. Looker Studio gives you a free canvas and leaves you to build, maintain, and manually sanity-check everything per client. Phloz gives you the client system of record (CRM, tasks, approvals, portals, retainer-burn) plus continuous tracking-setup monitoring with a 0–100 score and proactive digest. Agencies typically keep a few Looker Studio dashboards AND stop relying on them as the only signal.
My Looker Studio reports already pull GA4 data — isn't that monitoring?
It's rendering, not monitoring. The dashboard shows whatever GA4 reports — including data from a property whose tags half-broke last month. Nothing in Looker Studio knows what your client's setup SHOULD look like. Phloz models the intended setup as a typed graph and audits reality against it: unverified nodes, missing dedup, orphaned conversion actions become findings before they become chart anomalies.
Can Phloz replace the client-facing report?
For many agencies, yes: the monthly branded report + in-portal tracking-health summary + sign-off covers the "prove the work and the plumbing" conversation. If a client specifically wants live cross-channel KPI walls, keep that one Looker Studio page — Phloz replaces the ops around it and the trust question underneath it.

What you keep when you migrate

The honest list of what survives the move from Looker Studio. Your client list and contact records (CSV import). Your active tasks and their assignees, statuses, due dates (CSV import). Your custom fields, on clients and tasks (mapped to Phloz custom fields during import). Your inbound email addresses if you set up forwarding (re-pointed at the per-client Phloz inbound addresses).

What doesn't survive: historical activity logs older than what you'd realistically reference (most agencies discover they don't open activity from before the last quarter). Bespoke automation rules built on Looker Studio's specific automation engine — these need to be re-expressed in Phloz's patterns (recurring tasks, status hooks, inbound thread routing) or offloaded to Inngest / Zapier. Time entries stay in your time-tracking tool of record (Phloz integrates rather than re-imports).

The trade is a lighter, more opinionated tool that runs your agency's shape natively — at the cost of some per-tool customisation that, in retrospect, was usually a workaround for a missing primitive. See agency project management software for the broader buyer's guide on what to evaluate alongside this switch decision.

Want the head-to-head, not the switch story?

The Phloz vs Looker Studio comparison covers what each tool does, what each doesn't, and when Looker Studiois the right choice — for the cases where you're evaluating rather than already unhappy.
