Alternative to Monday.com
The Monday.com alternative for digital marketing agencies
Stop building agency ops out of a generic work OS. Phloz ships agency-shaped on day one.
What you're probably tired of
- A flexible work OS that needs hours of configuration before it does anything specific to agencies
- Per-seat pricing where every account manager is another seat
- No CRM in core (you bolt on monday CRM, which is its own product)
- No concept of tracking infrastructure — every pixel/property/conversion lives outside monday
What changes on Phloz
- Pre-assembled for agency operations — clients, contacts, tasks, messages, tracking are all there on day one
- CRM is core, not an add-on
- Per-active-client pricing
- Native tracking-infrastructure map (no third tool needed for it)
Should you actually switch?
A switch is real cost — a few days of structural mapping, a parallel-running week, training time, and the friction of breaking habits your team has built. Worth it when the new tool meaningfully changes how you work; not worth it when the gain is incremental.
The five signals that you're ready to leave Monday.com: (1) you're paying for seats or contacts you don't use, (2) you're running the tracking stack in a separate Sheet because the CRM has nowhere for it, (3) onboarding a new team member takes more than a day because the configuration is tribal knowledge, (4) clients ask "where do I see progress?" and you don't have a clean answer, (5) you're duplicating client data across two or three tools because no single tool fits.
If three of those five describe your agency, the structural upgrade pays back inside a quarter. If only one or two, stay where you are and revisit at the next pricing renewal — switching for marginal gain is usually a worse decision than the marginal gain.
When Monday.com is still the right choice
The honest counter-positioning. Monday.comisn't wrong for everyone — these are the cases where staying makes more sense than switching. If any of them describe you, weigh the trade carefully before migrating.
- You're running a non-agency business alongside the agency work — manufacturing pipeline, internal HR processes, IT request tracking. monday's flexibility is the right tool for general-purpose work; Phloz isn't trying to be.
- Your team has spent significant time customising monday boards and the customisation IS the value — automations, custom statuses, client-specific dashboards. Switching erases that investment.
- You sell monday or run an agency that implements monday for clients. Same Solutions-Partner economic logic as HubSpot — the tool you sell is the tool you use.
- Visual project planning + Gantt-style timelines are central to how you work and how you present to clients. monday's timeline view is more mature than Phloz's; Phloz is task-list-first.
Migration: what to plan for
monday boards map cleanly to clients (one client = one board → import as client + tasks). Contacts and timeline data export to CSV. The customised board structure agencies build over years generally doesn't need to come over — Phloz's opinionated agency defaults replace it. Plan 1 day for the structural rethink, half a day for the data move.
The structural rethink — mapping Monday.com's shape to Phloz's opinionated agency model — takes longer than the data move. Read the marketing agency CRM buyer's guide for the six capabilities that should drive the decision, and the pricing page to run the per-active-client math at your client count.
Monday.com migration FAQ
The three questions agency owners ask before signing the switch decision. Honest answers — same data we'd give a friend evaluating the move.
- I've customised monday heavily over years. Is that work lost?
- Most of the customisation work is replaced by Phloz's opinionated agency defaults — you don't need to recreate "client" as a custom column type because it's already a primitive. The work that genuinely was custom (e.g. a specific approval workflow your team invented) needs to be rebuilt; budget half a day per non-trivial workflow.
- Can I migrate monday automations to Phloz?
- Phloz handles common automations natively (recurring tasks, status-change notifications, due-date reminders, inbound email threading). monday's arbitrary "if/then" automations don't come over directly; map each to its Phloz equivalent or to Inngest/Zapier post-migration. List your top 10 automations before migrating; most agencies discover only 2-3 actually need to come over.
- How does pricing actually compare for a 10-person, 30-client agency?
- monday Pro is roughly $14/seat/mo = $140/mo for 10 seats. Phloz Pro at the same seat count gives 10 active clients for $29.99/mo; Growth gives 30 clients for $59.99/mo (the right tier for that profile). Net: ~50-60 percent reduction, with the tracking infrastructure map included. Math depends on your seat-vs-client ratio — see /pricing for the grid.
What you keep when you migrate
The honest list of what survives the move from Monday.com. Your client list and contact records (CSV import). Your active tasks and their assignees, statuses, due dates (CSV import). Your custom fields, on clients and tasks (mapped to Phloz custom fields during import). Your inbound email addresses if you set up forwarding (re-pointed at the per-client Phloz inbound addresses).
What doesn't survive: historical activity logs older than what you'd realistically reference (most agencies discover they don't open activity from before the last quarter). Bespoke automation rules built on Monday.com's specific automation engine — these need to be re-expressed in Phloz's patterns (recurring tasks, status hooks, inbound thread routing) or offloaded to Inngest / Zapier. Time entries stay in your time-tracking tool of record (Phloz integrates rather than re-imports).
The trade is a lighter, more opinionated tool that runs your agency's shape natively — at the cost of some per-tool customisation that, in retrospect, was usually a workaround for a missing primitive. See agency project management software for the broader buyer's guide on what to evaluate alongside this switch decision.
